The standard return mechanism in PrestaShop is intended primarily for customers who have an account in the store. The problem occurs when the customer placed an order as a guest and wants to file a return later.

Easy returns is a PrestaShop module that extends the standard return mechanism to support unlogged-in customers. The customer does not need to create an account or remember a password. All you need is an order number, e-mail address and a one-time PIN code.

How does the Easy Returns module work?

The customer can go to the return form without logging in to the store. After providing the order number and e-mail address, its identity is additionally verified using a one-time PIN code sent to the e-mail address provided when ordering.

After successful verification, the customer can choose the products he wants to return and file a return. It can also check the status of the application and communicate with the store about the return.

One of the most important functions of the module is the ability to handle returns by customers who have placed an order without registration. There is no need to create an account just to report the return of a previously placed order.

The Easy Returns module does not create a separate return handling system. It uses the standard PrestaShop mechanism, thanks to which applications are available directly in the administration panel in the Customer Service → Returns section.

Return data is stored in the standard PrestaShop tables order_return and order_return_detail. Thanks to this, the store owner can handle returns as part of the existing PrestaShop process, without the need to use an additional database.

Secure handling of returns from unlogged customers

The guest's access to the order data is protected by the HMAC token. The PIN code mechanism has a shipping frequency limitation - the next request to send the code can be fulfilled after 60 seconds.

PIN codes expire automatically after 10 minutes. Module forms are additionally secured with one-time nonce tokens that protect against CSRF attacks.
