How to check the customer's EU VAT number in PrestaShop?
The VIES Register module for PrestaShop allows you to verify the contractor's EU VAT number in the EU VIES system directly during customer registration in the store.
VAT number verification can be done automatically in Live mode or manually, depending on the configuration of the store and the adopted method of serving corporate customers.
The company customer can provide their EU VAT number when registering in the store. The module transmits the number to the VIES system of the European Commission and checks the result of the verification.
Information about the verification result is saved in PrestaShop, so that the administrator can later check the status of the contractor without having to search for data in an external system again.
In Live mode, the module can automatically verify the EU VAT number during customer registration.
Once the result is obtained, the customer can be automatically assigned to the appropriate customer group. This allows you to use the result of the verification in the further handling of orders, price lists and tax policies configured in PrestaShop.
The module allows you to divide customers into groups depending on the result of the verification.
Before you start using the module, you must create the appropriate customer groups and assign them the appropriate tax rules in accordance with the store's sales policy.
The module has been prepared for online stores selling to companies from Poland and other European Union countries.
Automatic verification of the EU VAT number allows you to reduce manual verification of contractors and improve the process of registering business customers.
The verification result can then be used to apply the appropriate customer configuration, group and tax rules in PrestaShop.
Positive verification of the EU VAT number in the VIES system is one of the elements of the contractor's verification in cross-border sales. However, the VIES result alone does not automatically mean that each transaction can be taxed at a 0% VAT rate.
The possibility of applying appropriate taxation rules depends on the type of transaction and the fulfillment of the required tax conditions. The module allows you to use the result of VIES verification in the store configuration, while the settlement method should correspond to the rules used by the seller.
After the verification is complete, the module can automatically assign the customer to the appropriate group in PrestaShop.
This allows the administrator to manually change the customer group after each positive or negative verification.
PrestaShop customer groups can then use their own prices, discounts and tax rules.
The module also allows you to manually manage the verification status. The administrator can recheck the selected contractor and, if necessary, manually change the verification status.
This is useful if you need to recheck customer data or apply an individual contractor service procedure.
The verification result is saved in the PrestaShop administration panel in the customer information. Thanks to this, the administrator can check whether the contractor has been verified and re-verify if necessary.
The module provides a dedicated corporate customer registration form designed to support B2B sales.
The form can be integrated into the PrestaShop registration process using a standard hook displayCustomerAccountForm or your own hook displayViesRegister.
The administrator receives access to a dedicated panel with information about company customers and the results of their VAT verification.
The panel makes it easier to manage verified contractors and control the status of verified verifications.
The module uses the VIES system of the European Commission to check the EU VAT numbers of contractors.
Verification takes place directly from the PrestaShop store, without the need to manually copy the VAT number to an external search engine.
The module is particularly useful in online stores selling B2B and serving customers from various European Union countries.
It will work especially well in stores that:
The module is designed for stores using PrestaShop. It does not require the installation of additional libraries on the store side and uses PrestaShop mechanisms and the VIES system.
In the case of a custom registration form or your own checkout, the possibility of integration depends on the template design used and the available hooks.
